Kin Men District

Kin-Men district is an island which is part of territory of Taiwan R.O.C., but it is just few kilometers away from China (Xiamen).  Kin-Men, the meaning in Chinese is "golden gate", the former battlefield against China, especially in 1950s-1990s.

Kin-Men has no many luxury traveling features for the visitors, but the remains of wars, for example defensive tunnels, artificial caves, memorials, weapons, and the MinNan historic architecture.  The friendly people make this place become a famous resort, and now further a Kin-Men National Park.

Taiwu Mountain is the highest point of Kin Men.  Chiang Kai-shek left words "毋忘在莒" (pronounce as "wu-wang-zai-ju") on the big rock for encouraging the people of Kinmen, including Taiwanese, do not forget the lessons of the war.  A Martyrs memorial is located at the foot of Taiwu mountain for commemorating the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.

Little Kinmen is an off-shore island of Kin Men, and it is much closer from China.  Little Kinmen also has many ruins reserved from the war.  It is a place worth to visiting.
